8 Anmeldung (Registration)
8.1 What is the Anmelduing?
An Anmeldung is simply translated as a “registration”, and is commonly used in the context of “Anmeldung einer Wohnung” or registration of an apartment. This does not mean you need to do anything to register the apartment, home, or building itself; rather, everyone who lives in Germany is required to register their current place of address with the municipality in which they live generally within 30 days of moving in.
8.2 Required Documents
German KVR page (https://stadt.muenchen.de/service/info/wohnsitz-anmelden-oder-ummelden/1063475/n0/), and the document can be found at Anmeldeformular link. Fortunately, there is an official translation into English of the webpage and the registration document too: (https://stadt.muenchen.de/en/info/residence-registration.html).
- Wohnungsgeberbestätigung: there is a form available online, but any statement with the following components will be sufficient to show confirmation that you are living at the location
- address of the apartment
- name and address of the landlord
- move-in date
- your name
- Meldeschein/Anmeldeformular
Sollte Ihnen die Wohnungsgeberbestätigung nicht oder noch nicht vorliegen, können Sie eine Erklärung zur fehlenden Wohnungsgeberbestätigung abgeben.
8.3 Making an Appointment
After gathering the required documents, you can make an appointment online. These appointments can be similarly difficult to obtain as the residence permit appointments, and, again, particularly so between September and November. Appointments can be booked online, and it generally won’t be held against you if you’re not able to register your address within your first 30 days if you have a reasonable excuse such as no appointments being available.
